You may have to shout louder. I’m not sure he can hear you from  that far back.

Was this your first motor rebuild? I am really considering a 350 for the Caprice wagon I have but I don't want to get in over my head. I also would probably do it in my living room - how doable do you think that would be? I don't have a wife or any other adult supervision.

My first total rebuild yes. Also my first OHV engine, but the chevy small block is stupid easy to rebuild especially at a stock level just because of the amount of knowledge that’s already out there and the fact you don’t really need any special tools to build it . Any question you could possibly has already been answered by somebody. Although doing it in a living room probably isn’t the best idea, if you do I’d suggest getting the block steam cleaned by a shop so you know it’s 100% oil free because no matter how hard you clean it by hand there’s still going to be some oil somewhere clinging on and it’s gonna leak out when you least want it to.

Thanks! Any chance you were able to build it for less than a crate motor?

This particular engine no.... truthfully I spent about double what a good crate engine would cost. But I went into it knowing I was going to spend about this much so it’s overbuilt for a normal street engine, really you don’t need forged internals or fancy aluminum heads and roller rocker arms plenty of people are making more power than I will with factory vortec cast iron heads cast internals.

I love the look of white headers but know enough about headers to not want them in my car. I suspect they will look good for about the first half of the cam break-in.

I just want to be able to do a one tire fire with my son in the rear facing third row when we leave soccer practice.

I also want to spend about $500. A boy can dream.

I bought a book and had no real experience and I rebuilt an FE 390 motor. It’s not that difficult if you take your time. Take lots of pictures. Bag everything. Take a lot more pictures.

Definitely send the block and heads out to get cleaned up.
